Topwater Is a Category, Not One Pattern
A popper, walking bait, buzzbait, and frog all catch bass on top, but they solve different problems. Picking the right one depends on cover, forage, water clarity, and how active the fish are.
Topwater usually works best in low light, around shade, during warm stable weather, or when bass are feeding upward on shad, bluegill, frogs, or insects.
