Where to Find Bluegill — All Year
Calendar permissible credits: Secrets to Catching More and Bigger Bluegill
Dec 1 – Feb 28
Target deep structure — humps, deep pools, and channels. Bluegill school tight to hard bottom in cold water.
Mar 1 – Mar 15
Fish near the surface along structured edges. Target flats and weed structure as water begins to warm.
Mar 15 – Apr 15
Target channels along weed lines as bass begin to move shallower following bluegill.
Apr 15 – May 31
60°F → fish shallow. At 70–75°F target 1–3 ft depths near dropoffs. Bluegill are moving to spawn.
Jun 1 – Aug 31
Target upper layers of the water column. Look for wood lines running deep, woody structure, and shaded areas — bass seek cooler water.
Sep 1 – Nov 30
Bass become more aggressive and can be found moving between deep and shallow zones as temps drop.
